About Summer Notes artwork...by the artist
As you can see, I painted this abstract artwork using a very limited palette of yellows and greys. As a colourist artist by nature, I don't often work with so few colours at a time. Yet it's something I find myself drawn towards at present, loving it, and so will be doing more of it.
As I built up layers and strokes on this digital painted piece, I started to see the painting naturally showing me an impression of sheet music and staves. So I went with this feel, adding in some collage pieces of music and some handwriting for extra context, texture and interest.
I love the way all the yellow and grey values interact together, with just a few touches of orange here and there to add pop.
The yellow gives it a hint of summer vibes, hence the name, and yet the art overall feels dramatic and very contemporary. The final prints look stunning on their thick, lightly textured paper.
